Exhibition at Sossi Award 2022
An Unforgettable Experience at Lucca Comics and Games
I've just returned from Lucca Comics & Games, an event I've been attending for years because I love comics, board games, and spending the day with my usual group of friends.
This year was even more special: in the Lucca Junior pavilion, one of my illustrations was on display.
Seeing it exhibited to the public, amidst all those people, was incredibly exciting.
My illustration, along with the entire storyboard I developed for
Lucca Junior - "Livio Sossi" editorial illustration award
, features dinosaurs (once again!) and a looming meteorite above their heads, with them unaware of the impending consequences.
The project is titled "Non mi Aspettavo" (i.e. I didn't exect), based on the original text by Angelo Mozzillo proposed for the competition.
The idea was inspired by Lars von Trier's film "Melancholia," a beautiful and shocking movie I watched while sketching the first ideas for this project.
Perhaps not an usual theme for young children, but so fitting with the text that I was thrilled to develop it.
Even though my work wasn't chosen for the illustrated book for the winner, I'm really happy that it was selected by the jury for the exhibition. It was a great source of satisfaction.
This time, I didn't bring back home the usual board game, but instead, an
illustrated book and a
graphic novel
that promise great satisfaction (I can't wait to start reading them!) and a lot of new ideas.
